雄町被稱作酒米之祖,有40多種的酒米源自於它。種植這種酒米是件非常麻煩的事情,因為它最高可以長到160公分以上,是最高的品種之一,而它的稻穗非常重,所以非常容易垂至地面,農夫需要花費很多時間來讓它的梗保持直立。這也是它價格高昂的原因,甚至有人稱雄町為『幻之米』!
